Rules & Policies
Everything you need to know about how the league runs. Conduct, liability and privacy are covered by the league documents every player signs online, and fees and refunds by the terms & conditions.
Game night
- The gym opens at 6:30 PM and closes at 9:45 PM. Arrive early enough to warm up with your team.
- Early games: warm-up at 7:00 PM, first serve at 7:15 PM.
- Late games: warm-up at 8:15 PM, first serve at 8:30 PM.
- Wear non-marking indoor shoes and bring a water bottle. Volleyballs are provided.
Court A is beside the entrance; Court B is at the far end.
Format & standings
- Each game is 3 sets, played to 25 (win by 2). All 3 sets are played every night.
- Standings are based on sets won, so every set counts. Ties are broken by point differential.
- At the end of the season, every team goes to the playoffs, seeded by the standings: quarterfinals, semifinals, then finals and placement matches.
On the court
- At least 2 women and 2 men on the court at all times.
- The ball can be played off the ceiling on the first 2 contacts, but it can't go over the net off the ceiling.
- Players can break rotation as soon as the ball is tossed on the serve.
- Standard volleyball rules otherwise apply: no net touches, no reaching under the net, no lifts or double contacts.
- If a call can't be agreed on, replay the point.
Referees & scores
- Teams referee each other's games. Your refereeing assignments are on the schedule. Show up on time: ref no-shows are recorded and shown in the standings.
- After each game, a captain enters the score on the site and the other team's captain confirms it. Scores become final once confirmed, or automatically after 48 hours.
Spares & attendance
- Captains are responsible for making sure their team has enough players each night.
- You can bring a spare as long as they are about the same skill level as the player they replace (no last-minute ringers).
- Players without a team can join the reserves list: send us a message.
Short-handed teams
- We keep it lenient. If a team is short at start time, it can borrow a temporary spare until its players arrive, or play with fewer players.
- If your team can't make it at all, let the other captain and the league know as early as possible.
Cancellations
- If the gym is closed or a night is cancelled (for example, a snow day), we'll post it in the banner at the top of this site, on the schedule and in the captains' WhatsApp group.
- Known closure this season: Tuesday November 10 (gym closed for Remembrance Day).
More
- Skill requirements: the level of play to expect.
- How we play the 5-1: positions, switching, serve receive and defence.
